Bambi Kirschner

Toronto-based Visual Artist, Bambi Kirschner, highlights what it means to be a 21st century digital girl living in a 3D world. Through whimsical colour and texture, Bambi moulds glamorous dreamscapes and scenario's. We take a look at her two latest series 'Not My Label' and 'Not Yours'.

Not My Label

"For the work, "Not My Label,” I got an inspired by a new’s story I read about a mother of a 17-year-old girl that had purchased an eyeshadow palette from Boots. The mother was concerned over the names of the eyeshadow colour’s, “MILF,” “Homewrecker" and “Housewife." She didn’t want her teen daughter using makeup with what she thought to be crude names. This got me thinking about how products are advertised to women and how we are constantly being labeled in some way. We constantly get judged by what we wear, how we act, what we buy etc. These labels used, either consciously or not, control women to certain standards."

Not Yours

"Is an interpretation of femininity and the unattainable ideals imposed upon women. Using the untraditional medium of 3D, my images aim to scrutinize the role of the internet and its desire to be aesthetically perfect."
